But it’s still illegal to sell or buy marijuana in Washington, which includes Alaska, Oregon and California.
Medical marijuana is legal in Washington state and some states have expanded their marijuana laws in recent years.
But those states have a lot of room to grow.
In 2018, California became the ninth state to allow for medical marijuana.
California voters in 2018 approved Proposition 19, which allows patients with certain conditions to grow up to six marijuana plants.
Medical cannabis is legal for patients with severe medical conditions, including cancer, multiple sclerosis and HIV.
