Teenager who fell from a balcony and died in an accident at a residential group home in Florida was a member of a “family of the year” in his hometown of Ocala, according to a relative who attended the funeral.
The teen, named by the Miami Herald as Cody Cason, was 18.
He was the second Florida boy to die from a fall at a youth group home this year.
In the past week, three more youths have died from falling from the same roof at residential homes in Broward County.
On Friday, a 19-year-old man in Orlando was pronounced dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest after he was found on the third floor of a house where a group of teens was celebrating.
In addition, a 17-year old boy in Fort Myers was found dead of a gunshot wound after being left on the porch of a home on Friday.
In Ocahia, a small town on Florida’s east coast, authorities are investigating a possible suicide.
They have not released any details, and family members say they are not familiar with the teens’ ages or identities.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are conducting their own investigations.
In a statement, the Sheriff’s Department said it “is actively cooperating with law enforcement in their investigations and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.”
